Starke Liquid Kraken — Marine Grade Graphene Nano Coating

There is a reason Liquid Kraken sits at the top of the Starke lineup. It isn’t the price. It’s the chemistry.

Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms in a hexagonal lattice — one atom thick, harder than diamond per unit thickness, with thermal conductivity that exceeds copper. It won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2010. And it is what separates Liquid Kraken from every SiO2 ceramic coating on the market.

Why Graphene Outperforms SiO2 Ceramic Coatings

The most important commercial difference for boat owners is water spot resistance. SiO2 coatings have oxygen-containing surface groups that calcium and magnesium ions — the minerals in hard water and saltwater — chemically bond to. That’s how water spots form. Graphene’s carbon lattice doesn’t offer those bonding sites the same way. The result is 50% better water spot resistance compared to standard ceramic coatings. For boats in the Pacific Northwest, Florida, the Bahamas, or anywhere hard water and salt cycle together daily — that improvement is visible and real.

The thermal conductivity of graphene dissipates heat across the coating surface rather than allowing it to concentrate in spots. On a boat sitting in direct summer sun, that difference prevents the localized thermal degradation that shortens coating life and causes premature failure on lesser products.

Key Benefits

  • 50% better water spot resistance than standard SiO2 ceramic coatings — critical for saltwater and hard water environments
  • Superior thermal dissipation — graphene’s conductivity prevents heat concentration and premature coating failure
  • Harder than diamond per unit thickness — maximum scratch and abrasion resistance for marine conditions
  • Multi-surface compatibility — bonds to gel coat, marine paint, powder coat, and glass
  • Top-of-lineup protection — Starke’s most advanced coating for vessels where only the best is acceptable

How to Apply Liquid Kraken

Application requires preparation and respect. Follow these steps precisely for a successful bond:

  • Surface prep: Fully correct and decontaminate the surface before application. IPA wipe-down removes polishing residue that would prevent bonding.
  • Application: Apply with a suede applicator — 4 to 10 drops depending on surface area. Use thin, consistent strokes. The coating appears dark when wet — that is normal. That is the graphene.
  • Flash check: Watch for the corduroy pattern — when your application strokes become clearly visible across the surface, flash is complete and leveling begins.
  • Removal: Use two clean microfibers — primary towel to remove, insurance towel to catch any high spots.
  • Cure time: 24–48 hours with no water contact for initial cure. 7–14 days for full hardness development.

FAQ

Will there be hands on demonstration?

Absolutely. We will have a boat in the shop to work on. We typically focus on the hull sides. All the Starke products, pads and machines will be on display and available for use.

Will there be classroom work?

Yes. We like to sit down and go over some over the basics. We will have a presentation and slideshow. We start by introducing everyone. We like to ask why each person came and what they wanted to gain from this experience. Once we figure that out we can then dial in the message to focus on where everyone needs the most information.

Is this an accreditation course?

Yes. Sign up for this course to become a Starke Certified Installer and be listed on our site and receive special discounts on Starke products.

If I am a DIYer, can I attend this course.

Absolutely. This class is for the professional or the enthusiast. The techniques we will be teaching work across the board.
