Teak Cleaner & Brightener for Marine Teak Decks | Pacific Northwest

Starke Teak Clean is a professional-grade 2-part teak cleaning and brightening system engineered to restore grey, weathered teak decks to their natural golden-brown color. Gentle on caulk seams, tough on saltwater stains, oxidation, and the grey weathering common in Pacific Northwest marine environments.

Why PNW Boaters Need It

The wet, overcast Pacific Northwest climate accelerates teak graying and promotes mildew staining faster than almost anywhere on the West Coast. Starke Teak Clean’s acid-base system removes years of grey oxidation, black mildew, and salt residue from Puget Sound, the San Juan Islands, and coastal Washington teak decks — restoring the wood without damaging surrounding caulk seams.

How It Works — Step-by-Step

  1. Wet the teak and surrounding surfaces thoroughly before starting. Put on rubber gloves and eye protection.
  2. Apply Part A (acid cleaner): Pour into a bucket — use full strength or dilute up to 4:1 with water. Apply to wet teak with a brush or scouring pad. Scrub lightly in circular motions against the grain. The surface will turn dark/blackish — this is normal. Let dwell 2–3 minutes.
  3. Rinse caulk lines if needed: If Part A causes heavy black bleeding from caulk seams, hose off before proceeding to Part B.
  4. Apply Part B (neutralizing base): Using a separate bucket and brush, work Part B into the same teak surface. Parts A and B neutralize each other on contact — this reaction must happen on the wood, not in your bucket. Do not mix tools between parts.
  5. Rinse thoroughly: Hose everything down completely. Teak will appear natural golden-brown when dry.

Important Safety Notes

  • Part A is an acid — rinse immediately if it contacts paint, stainless steel, or other metals before drying
  • Always use rubber gloves and eye protection
  • Never mix Part A and Part B in the same bucket or on the same brush

FAQ

Will there be hands on demonstration?

Absolutely. We will have a boat in the shop to work on. We typically focus on the hull sides. All the Starke products, pads and machines will be on display and available for use.

Will there be classroom work?

Yes. We like to sit down and go over some over the basics. We will have a presentation and slideshow. We start by introducing everyone. We like to ask why each person came and what they wanted to gain from this experience. Once we figure that out we can then dial in the message to focus on where everyone needs the most information.

Is this an accreditation course?

Yes. Sign up for this course to become a Starke Certified Installer and be listed on our site and receive special discounts on Starke products.

If I am a DIYer, can I attend this course.

Absolutely. This class is for the professional or the enthusiast. The techniques we will be teaching work across the board.
